Development Squads Overview

Belmayne Educate Together is now in its ninth year. Since the school opened in 2008 we have enjoyed great success in relation to GAA. We've enjoyed cup wins in both hurling and football, in Croke Park and Parnell Park. We want this winning tradition to continue and to do this we plan to work with pupils from an early age, to encourage them to attend afterschool GAA clubs and if possible join local GAA clubs.

This year we have started development squads for both boys and girls. The aim of the development squads is to provide younger children with the skills necessary to play for the school football and hurling teams in the coming years. We ask parents to be patient. It takes time to develop the skills needed to participate in competitive leagues.

Paula and Paul are currently working with the Girls Development Squad. this has been a huge success this year with nearly 30 girls taking part in training every week.

Kevin is leading the Boys Development Squad. As with the girls there are nearly 30 boys taking part in weekly training.

Boys training is on every Monday from 2:30 to 3:30. Girls training is on Wednesday at the same time. Everyone is welcome to come to these training sessions and we encourage everyone to at least give it a go. Skills are taught in a fun and active way. At present the clubs are only open to children from 2nd to 6th but we hope to include the younger classes later on in the school year.

The GAA clubs will run up to the October/November mid term break.

If you have any questions regarding GAA, please contact Gearoid at belmayneetgof@gmail.com

If you wish to bring your child to the local GAA club we encourage you to look at the Trinity Gaels Website a www.trinitygaels.com or by contacting the club's Development Officer, Neil O'Driscoll at 087 7946454

Neil, on behalf of Trinity Gaels and the GAA has been coming into school for the last four years, providing the children with PE lessons that focus on gross motor skills. He is currently working with the junior infant, senior infant and fourth class pupils on Wednesdays. Trinity Gaels are also very supportive of the school. They always make sure pitches are set up for us when we have matches. It's important that we reward them by taking part in club activities.

Belmayne Educate Together vs Scoil an Duinninigh
Fingal League Junior Division 4 Final

The route to this final was the most challenging campaign faced by any Belmayne Team. We faced many tough teams throughout the league including Mother of Divine Grace National School, Howth National School, Holywell Educate Together, Swords Educate Together and Scoil an Duinninigh.

Belmayne finished second in their group, behind Scoil an Duinningh which meant that we were faced with a tough semi final against the winners of group B, Swords Educate Together. With the experience of last year's final win in Croke Park, Belmayne prevailed by 6 points.

The final gave Belmayne a second opportunity at Scoil an Duinninigh. At half time, Belmayne were trailing by 6 points but all the players dug deep and a last minute goal from Conn Rock gave us the victory by 1 point.

This was Belmayne's first success in an official football competition and followed on the great win in Croke Park the previous year.

Belmayne Educate Together vs Our Lady's BNS, Ballinteer

It took six years of hard work from pupils, teachers and parents but the greatest day in the history of Belmayne GAA happened on the 9th of June 2016 in Croke Park when Belmayne defeated Our Lady's BNS, Ballinteer by five points to win the Corn Oideachais hurling cup.

The Irish Independent reported:
'Brothers Conn Rock and Fionn Rock drove Belmayne Educate Together to the Corn Oideachas title.'

The Evening Herald:
'The Rock brothers, Fionn and Conn, were in majestic form for Belmayne. In the first half, Fionn went on a solo down the left wing. For a second, the crowd thought that Nicky English had changed into his playing gear.'

He goes on a trademark solo run
